The MA in Economics is a 30-credit program that provides depth of knowledge and analytical skills in the field of economics along with a wide range of elective choices. Each candidate shapes an individual concentration, such as economics and finance, classical political economy, interdisciplinary political economy, urban economics, or development economics.

The MA in Economics prepares graduates for academic and professional careers in diverse fields, including finance, government, business, and consulting. Many students pursue further study and research at the doctoral level at The New School for Social Research or other leading universities.

Entering students work with an individual faculty advisor. This advisor, together with the departmental student advisor, introduces students to the curriculum as a whole and helps them formulate the program that best suits their interests and needs.

STEM Designation for International Applicants 

This program is STEM-designated. After graduating, eligible F-1 students in this program can apply for an additional 24 months of Optional Practical Training at the end of their Post-Completion OPT.
