Profile
Prior to joining the J+D faculty full time in 2018, Anjali was the editor of Fast Company Digital. Before that, she worked for the New York Daily News. She is the recipient of a 2021 South Asian Journalists Association Award and a 2020 New York Press Club Prize, and has written for publications ranging from the Guardian to Gossamer. In 2022, she received the second-place personality profile prize from the Los Angeles Press Club. In March of 2019, her chapbook and chatbot project, Ghostbot, was published by Nor By Press / Wendy's Subway; it was a finalist for a 2020 Eric Hoffer Award. She was a 2022 resident artist at 33 Officina Creativa in Toffia, Italy; a 2021 MacDowell Fellow in New Hampshire; and a 2019 resident at Arteles Creative Center in Haukijärvi, Finland. She has received four Faculty Opportunity Awards from The New School: three for curriculum development and one for journalism research.
Anjali holds an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and an M.A. in Journalism from New York University. She has taught fiction and poetry classes at UMass, and courses on topics ranging from platform journalism to investigative reporting at NYU and Columbia University. She sits on The Objective's advisory board, and is on the board of directors at the Academy of American Poets. She is also the faculty advisor for the Tadka South Asian Student Association at The New School.
