Acclaimed Ensemble The Westerlies joins School of Jazz in residence.
Our artist-as-mentor pedagogy makes our school distinct. We attract top-ranked musicians, including Reggie Workman and Jane Ira Bloom, to our faculty. While some students work best in a strict course of study, our students thrive in an environment that encourages them to design their own path. These legendary musicians become mentors. They help students develop the confidence and knowledge to experiment, take risks, fail, take more risks, and find an authentic style of self-expression. They work with students one-on-one, invite them to sit in on sets, and offer invaluable insight and inspiration.
