Registering Your Voicemail Account

If you are a new employee or have not previously setup your voicemail account, you are required to register your extension in MyNewsSchool so that an account may be created for you. To register/create a voicemail account

  • Sign in to MyNewSchool and open the Employee tab.
  • On the left side of the screen, under “Self Service” and “New School Directory”, select the Update your contact information in the university directory link.
  • Select the 'Update NS Address' button in the middle of the screen.
  • Enter the starting date for the updated information, and add your telephone extension.
  • Click the “Submit” button to save your changes.

Special Note: Allow one business day for extension changes in Banner to be processed and available in the new voicemail system. You can then proceed with accessing your new voicemail account, creating a PIN and recording your greeting. If after one full business day your account is not available, please submit a Service Order Request.

Setting Up Your Voicemail

You may access your voicemail by calling x7000 on your phone, using the default PIN (12345#). Please see the below steps to complete your voicemail setup.

  1. Call extension 7000 from your phone.
  2. Enter your PIN (default PIN is 12345#). You will be prompted to change it during initial setup.
  3. Follow system instructions for the following:
    • Record your name.
    • Set a new password.
    • Record your greeting.

Setting Up Your Departmental Voicemail

If you are responsible for a departmental account, you can access and set it up by following these instructions:

  1. Call extension 7000 to access the voicemail system.
  2. Press the star key (*) during the Cisco Unity welcome message.
  3. When prompted, enter your ID (4-digit desk phone extension) then press the pound key (#).
  4. Enter the Account PIN (default PIN is 12345#). You will be prompted to change it during initial setup.
  5. Follow system instructions for the following:
    • Record the name.
    • Set a new password.
    • Record the greeting.

Accessing Your Voicemail from Another Phone on Campus

You may access your voicemail account from another phone on campus with the below instructions:

  1. Call extension 7000 to access the voicemail system.
  2. Press the star key (*) during the Cisco Unity welcome message.
  3. When prompted, enter your ID (4-digit desk phone extension) then press the pound key (#).
  4. Enter your PIN.

Accessing Your Voicemail from Off-Campus

You may access your voicemail account from an off-campus phone with the below instructions:

  1. Call your 10-digit university telephone number (including area code), and then during the recorded greeting, enter extension 7000.
  2. Press the star key (*) during the Cisco Unity welcome message.
  3. When prompted, enter your ID (4-digit desk phone extension) then press the pound key (#).
  4. Enter your PIN.
