Franz Joseph Haydn: String Quartet in F Minor, Op. 20, No. 5 (1772) Program approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes including intermission Single tickets on sale now Prizewinners at both the 2023 Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition and 2023 Osaka International Chamber Music Competition, the Terra String Quartet (TSQ) is a vibrant young international ensemble based in New York City. They are composed of graduates of The Juilliard School, The New England Conservatory, Harvard University, and the Curtis Institute of Music. Praised for their "remarkable maturity and musicality" and "superb ensemble playing" (Hyde Park Herald, Chicago), these four musicians hail from across the globe and, through their unique individuality as artists, are committed to infusing the string quartet with equal parts passion, spontaneity, and humor. TSQ has performed at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, at Alice Tully Hall with cellist Natasha Brofsky as part of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts’s “Wednesdays at One” series, and as part of the Four Seasons Chamber Music Festival’s Winter Workshop in North Carolina, where they performed with Robert McDonald. They have also appeared in concert with the Cremona Quartet. Their mentors and coaches include Ara Gregorian, Mark Steinberg, Nina Lee, Hye-Jin Kim, Marcy Rosen, Daniel Avshalomov, Philip Setzer, Natasha Brofsky, Catherine Cho, and Calvin Wiersma. Recent tours include performances at the Chesapeake Chamber Music Festival and the Emilia-Romagna Festival in Italy. Hailed in The New York Times as “one of the best deals in town for lovers of classical music,” for six decades, The New School’s Mannes School for Music’s Schneider Concerts series has presented outstanding young artists and ensembles at non-exclusionary ticket prices. The series’ remarkable history includes the New York debuts of the Dover, Calidore, Isidore, Viano, Guarneri, Cleveland, and Vermeer String Quartets and TASHI. Artists such as Yefim Bronfman, Richard Goode, Jaime Laredo, Yo Yo Ma, and Murray Perahia were introduced to New York audiences early in their careers. The series was founded at The New School in 1957 as New School Concerts by violinist and conductor Alexander Schneider, who led the series until his death in 1993, at which time the series was renamed The Schneider Concerts in his honor. Artistic leadership is now under the auspices of a committee of eight noted musicians: John Dalley, Pamela Frank, Jaime Laredo, Cho-Liang Lin, Anthony McGill, Kurt Muroki, Tara O’Connor, and Arnold Steinhardt. The 2023-24 Schneider Concerts season is supported by the Alexander Schneider Foundation and with public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and the New York State Council for the Arts. |
