Centering Agency in Humanitarian Photography
Giorgio Faedo (MFA Transdisciplinary Design '22)
Centering Agency in Humanitarian Photography reimagines the role of photography in addressing power imbalances in international development. Created by Giorgio Faedo, it collaborates with communities across Africa to develop five frameworks guiding practice. These frameworks emphasize authentic self-representation for subjects and redefine tools like cameras and tripods to foster more equitable engagement.
By reframing humanitarian photography as a practice of solidarity, it strengthens connections between subjects and audiences while advancing equity and representation.
