Summary: Clarity Cosmetics makes beauty inclusive, offering products designed for visually impaired and color-blind people. The brand emerged from extensive research on the challenges these communities face in relation to the beauty industry. Through qualitative research and innovative design, I developed and introduced products with QR codes and braille text linked to comprehensive online resources for effortless navigation. Clarity Cosmetics embodies the change needed in the industry, ensuring everyone can experience the joy and confidence that comes with wearing makeup.
Challenge: Through interviews and observation, I uncovered significant problems faced by color-blind and visually impaired makeup users. Key challenges included non-inclusive labeling, a lack of guidance suited to users' sensory needs, the feeling of being alone in their struggles, and lack of confidence in their ability to apply makeup because of limits in their vision. These insights highlighted the need for products that prioritize functional design over mere aesthetics and provide comprehensive support through innovative technology like QR codes and braille, addressing these user-specific challenges effectively.
Solution: Clarity Cosmetics has developed into a beacon of accessibility in the beauty industry, offering a solution tailored to the needs of visually impaired and color-blind people. The final product lineup includes eyeshadows, lipsticks, and blushes labeled with QR codes and braille text, ensuring easy access to detailed visual usage guides. This inclusion of these features addresses the demand of these communities for clarity and autonomy in makeup application, establishing a new standard for inclusive design and enabling users to embrace makeup with confidence.
