NEW YORK, NY, March 11, 2019 – The New School announced today that internationally acclaimed flutist, Elizabeth Mann, will join the faculty of Mannes School of Music.

“We are thrilled to welcome Liz to the faculty at Mannes," said Richard Kessler, Dean of Mannes. “Liz is an artist that I truly admire: one whose artistry is rich and broad, and spans work as a soloist, as a chamber musician, and as an orchestral musician."

As professor of flute at Mannes, Mann will direct ensembles, teach private lessons, and give master classes to students at Mannes. She will also work closely with faculty colleagues to develop and provide new performance opportunities for students.

"I am thrilled to be joining the Mannes School of Music. I am passionate about teaching and Mannes is a very exciting school. I cannot wait to get started,” said Mann.

Elizabeth Mann is a featured performer in concert halls throughout the United States, Europe, and the Far East. She is a member of Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and is the principal flutist of the Orchestra of St. Luke’s.

In past seasons, her performances have included the Mozart Flute and Harp Concerto with Emmanuel Ceysson at the Caramoor Music Festival, Andre Previn’s “The Giraffes go to Hamburg” with Renée Fleming at Carnegie Hall, and Boulez “Memoriale” for solo flute at the NY Philharmonic Biennial Festival.  She has also performed Brandenburg Concerti with Jaime Laredo in Spain and Japan, at the Blossom Festival with Orpheus, and recently at the Kennedy Center. Ms. Mann performed the U.S. premiere of the Gubaidulina Concerto for flute and violin in Carnegie Hall with Gidon Kremer and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.

Ms. Mann spends part of her summers teaching and performing at the Colorado College Music Festival. In past seasons, she has been a featured performer at various festivals including the Caramoor International Music Festival, the Lockenhaus Festival in Austria, the Santa Fe Chamber Festival, and the Moab Music Festival.

Appearing in numerous recitals, she has been heard at the Aldeburgh Festival in London, the Library of Congress, and Carnegie Hall in New York.

Ms. Mann attended the Juilliard School as a student of Julius Baker. After winning the Boston Young Artist Concerto Competition at the age of 12, her career began with a solo performance with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. She was also winner of the 1981 New York Flute Competition.

She can be heard on over 100 recordings. Her most recent include those with Garrick Ohlsson playing Chopin Variations, with Andre Previn in his own work, and CD of Chopin transcriptions for flute and harp.
