Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts at The New School welcomes back author, activist and feminist scholar bell hooks as scholar-in-residence. Her fifth and final visit in a three-year residency will feature conversations with leading public intellectuals and scholars, including artist Theaster Gates (October 5), political activist Kevin Powell (October 6), writers and activists Marci Blackman and Darnell Moore (October 7), New York Times columnist Charles Blow (October 8), and writer and professor Beverly Guy-Sheftall (October 9).
Named “one of the nation’s leading public intellectuals” by The Atlantic, hooks has authored or edited more than 40 books and countless articles on feminism, spirituality, race, and class. They include the acclaimed Ain’t I A Woman?, Black Women and Feminism, and Feminist Theory: From Margin to Center. Her most recent book, published in 2012, is a collection of essays entitled Writing Beyond Race: Living Theory and Practice.
