Compound Housing for Festival Crafts
Buried semi-underground, this project is a dedicated space where Ban Wari Suthawaat’s crafters and artists can prepare for the major Buddhist festivals that take place throughout the year. These major holidays include New Year, Vesak, Magha Puja Day, Songkran, and Loy Krathong. Following the Buddhist lunar calendar, which begins between March and April, these holidays celebrate the birth of Buddha, his enlightenment and teachings, and the marking of lent, among other things. As festival seasons approach, many crafts are prepared. These include sky lanterns, krathong flower boats, flower garlands, jewelry, masks, sculptures, paintings, and umbrellas.
