The In-Between
By definition, busking is the act of performing music in a public space for donations. The public encounters these musicians, called “buskers,” mainly in subway stations when traveling from one destination to another. This halfway point that buskers exist within is what I have used as a framework for creating my design.
I have transformed the space into a community center and practice location for the M.U.N.Y. (Music Under New York) busking community to use during their non-performance hours. In my design, I have included private practice rooms, a recording studio, an open stage and lounge seating, a café, and locker storage. Buskers are welcome to use this space as their own “in-between” place.
