Veld
My project, titled Veld, is a collection including nine looks. The pdf includes sources of inspiration, developmental sketches, process work, flats, and illustrations as well as images of two completed garments. My collection is inspired by the open grasslands (known as Bushveld or simply Veld) found in in my home country of South Africa and my family's collective experiences of the Veld.
Although the collection did not turn out entirely as intended due to the unusual circumstances caused by the Covid- 19 pandemic, I was able to adjust my plans and used leftover/reused muslin in place of my chosen fabric and painting with smoke instead of having my fabric printed. Windowsills and fire escapes became backdrops for what would have been my look book. All in all, this project became as example of the South African saying "'n Boer maak 'n plan" a common phrase used when improvisation and creative thinking are used to solve problems.
