Demographics show that the Lower East Side is in need of more affordable lifestyle opportunities. This proposal aims to create a community that sustains itself. A large portion of resident needs are met by growing food on site and providing work opportunities. The diverse program — which includes a wellness center, cooking classes, and art studio — also offers educational benefits for all ages. These functions are distributed on site in order to create a dynamic ground floor, inviting visitors into a variety of spaces. Housing units stand on an elevated platform in anticipation of future floods. The modularity of the units lends each home uniqueness and allows for an easier construction process through prefabrication. The systems intersect with the housing level in order to connect all functions and favor access to all.
