My thesis project rediscovers the urban and social infrastructure at the Jerome Park Reservoir, revealing a forgotten foundation capable of upholding a visible, novel, and healthy network between architecture and the natural. Our interactions with water infrastructure too frequently come through a series of complaints: a leaky faucet, lead infused pipes, a broken water main, or something much worse—a broken levee. The reason why we only see water through this lens is due to the trend to spectacularize our cities and architecture, burying these vital systems underground. However, at the turn of the 20th century, American imagination idealized these systems and networks for their engineering advancements, providing a foundation for a future constructed environment.
