Constellate: A Community Center for the Urban Dwellers of Flushing Meadows-Corona Park
My thesis project is a concept for a community center for the residents of Flushing and Corona, New York. This community center will be a gathering place offering activities such as cooking, eating, learning, and exercising, all within an “old meets new” abandoned landmark. Through communal participation, the urban dwellers of Flushing Meadows-Corona Park can stimulate their bodies, both physically and mentally, through programs that encourage wellness. In this design concept, a sense of community will be maintained as a way to foster a sense of belonging and nourish the constellation of cultures, experiences, and ideas among the residents of Flushing and Corona.
