• Yasemin Emory

  • After earning her AAS degree in Graphic Design, Yasemin Emory landed a coveted internship at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia under the tutelage of her Parsons professor and current boss. She was then hired to work freelance for the company and soon obtained a full-time position. Her seamless transition from student to assistant art director for the Special Projects Group took only six months; since that time, she has been promoted to associate art director.

    Advising
Emory’s path to Parsons was not as straightforward. As an undergraduate at Montreal’s McGill University, she studied international development. Her experience as a photo editor for the school newspaper turned her vocational interest toward design. The AAS program at Parsons gave her an opportunity to explore that interest. “You are not just learning to move type around a page; you are approaching design with a point of view or a sense of purpose from the get-go. It’s always connected to the larger world, to our experience, interests, and knowledge.” Emory hopes to combine her background in international development with her design expertise to benefit the greater good.
