Modes of Sight: Mediating Privacy in the Urban Habitat

Advising

Light and human behavior are two non-static qualities of the environment, and are therefore key to mediating sight within space. Light is a principal actor in defining space and has the capacity to define and enable relationships between inhabitants and their environment. Ultimately, this mediation of sight becomes an investigation into how privacy is mediated and reinforced within the scales of urban habitation. With sight as the primary sense addressed in current design practice, how can the deliberate implementation of modes of seeing create environments of engagement?
