Prejudice begins with stereotypes, characterized by generalizations and misconceptions about the members of a particular group. Stereotypes may be positive or negative, but prejudiced individuals focus on the negative stereotypes. Prejudice is often expressed in defensive measures, aversion to and avoidance of a group of people, and adherence to one’s own group.
In my project, I explore the function of fashion as a kind of armor in modern society. Each piece in my collection serves as a defensive covering that protects the wearer from prejudice.
