Shirin Mazdeyasna

Using videos and installations, I have retold and redrawn narratives from ancient myths, drawing connections between the heroes of these myths and my own ordinary life. My working process starts with converting spaces into immersive installations including painted surfaces, sculptural objects, and video projections. In video animations, I refer to the ancient Shahnameh, an epic poem of Iran, by using elements of Persian miniature paintings. The fragmented representational quality of pixels and gestures in my videos appears through embroidery, tapestry, and performances. I attempt to bring attention to isolated events and project a new light on narratives of the past.
