Kindred

Kindred

Kindred is a digital health and education platform designed specifically for the trans community. In a time when access to care is being systematically undermined, Kindred offers a life-affirming alternative: a tool that centers trans experiences and supports people in navigating hostile healthcare systems with agency, confidence, and dignity.

I designed Kindred as a mobile-first experience, with a strong focus on convenience, accessibility, safety, and personalization. It supports users through every step of their healthcare journey by offering in-depth guides to trans-specific care, helping users find affirming doctors and therapists, prepare for appointments, and reflect on significant milestones—whether it is a physical change, a surgery date, or a moment of growth and affirmation.

One feature that makes Kindred unique is its ability to adapt to the user’s situation. When someone signs up, they go through a process in which their experience is tailored to take into account where they are in their transition, what kinds of care they’re looking for, and whether or not they have insurance. Kindred offers customized pathways, reminders, and educational resources to help the user feel informed and supported.

I also included features like flexible financing options for uninsured users, wellness check-ins, and checklists to assist in preparation for appointments. Having faced similar barriers, I understand how overwhelming and isolating this process can be.

This project came out of my own frustrations with the healthcare system and numerous conversations with members of the trans community. My goal was to design a system that would not only help people find care but make them feel seen and supported—recognizing that holistic health involves emotional, mental, and community needs. Kindred is my attempt to create a platform that puts the needs of queer and trans people first in systems that often overlook them.
