Total number of people affected & killed for water related natural disasters over 30 years

Advising

An infographic that visualizes water-related natural disaster data gathered between 1980 and 2010. Traditionally presented by scientists and governments in the form of spreadsheets indecipherable to the average citizen, the infographic shows the number of people affected and killed in each country as a result of floods, droughts, and storms. Countries are grouped based on their Human Development Index ranking—which measures a country’s achievement in areas such as life expectancy, education, and standard-of-living— allowing aid organizations to easily identify the most at-risk countries. In May 2011, the graphic was presented to over 3,000 UN delegations at the Global Assessment Research Report Launch Platform in Geneva, Switzerland.
