Yearbook Project

Advising
The Yearbook Project explores photographic representation from middle school, high school and college yearbooks bridging two centuries. The format of the work is photographic video. Scanned yearbook pages are combined with live video footage of myself. The duality between live footage and sourced images parallels a nostalgia for the past and a revival of the school experience. The Yearbook Project hosts a collection of several short works. This project began with a yearbook I purchased in 2009 at the Strand Bookstore. The images within it fascinated me. I was intrigued about its original owner, Jill Barshay, and all the personal anecdotes written by her friends. My interpretation of the yearbook page reflects the mystery that lies beneath unknown images.
