Fashion's ever-shifting trends have produced a chilling result: the rise of fast fashion. Characterized by breakneck production cycles, an over-reliance on synthetic materials, and a disregard for quality, the fashion system churns out garments with a brief lifespan. The quantities of clothes discarded by consumers don't simply disappear; they accumulate in landfills, transforming into spectral figures haunting our wastelands.
I created Anthologies of Fashion Disposal to serve as a visual warning about this often ignored consequence of our fashion system. It is a poignant reminder that the clothes we wear come at a cost, not just financial, but environmental and ethical as well. The mountains of discarded garments people produce serve as a stark call to action, urging us to break free of the cycle of overproduction and overconsumption. We must embrace a more mindful approach to fashion, one that emphasizes quality over quantity and promotes responsible consumption. Only then can we exorcize the results of fast fashion and pave the way to a more sustainable future.
