Urban Speculation
In her work, Gevint recreates architecture, erasing people and time. As an expression of society, architecture is charged with a symbolic language that she attempts to override and manipulate, ultimately creating a desolate urban environment that resembles in its essence a post-war city scenario. By creating factious montages, the artist renders a utopian reality that becomes a dystopia once realized. Drawing from internet based imagery of utopian architecture, Gevint perpetuates the style and the failure of the ideas that stand behind it. The end result of her composited images is a series of uncanny structures that create a city of fragments from the past, present and future.
