Sacrifice
This project was born as an assignment to make a sculpture or form inspired by and using polyhedrons. After finding a mirror fished out of a dumpster, I conceived the idea of creating a 3D geometric mosaic. I drew a plan on the mirror, then used a glass cutter to create small triangles, which I taped together to form pyramids. In 18 hours of intensive work, I assembled the piece using tile grout, filling in the gaps with tesserae formed from broken bits of glass and attaching it all to a large piece of foam board. I titled the piece sacrifice because, as a student working on a deadline, I had to expend a great deal of time and effort to complete the project. Rather than sacrificing my vision and goal, I gave it my all, even though that constituted a sacrifice in a different sense.
