Walking through the streets, people move like sleepwalkers, alienated beings moving mechanically back and forth between destinations. Familiarity has reduced people's attention, rendering them almost blind. How can one learn how to see? I choose to gaze slowly and repeatedly at the ordinary spaces and objects in the cityscape, keeping an eye out for the unknown. My lenses move fluidly between digital, analog, and 3D scanning. By extending the properties of the photographic medium—the freedom of scale and depiction of surfaces—I use installation to re-examine habitual ways of seeing, emphasize the relativity of time and space through multiple perspectives presented in parallel, and present philosophical commentary on human perceptions of existence and on our relationship with our industrial and natural surroundings.
