In the visual arts, anamorphosis is an ingenious perspective technique that gives a distorted image of the subject represented in a picture when seen from the usual viewpoint but so executed that if viewed from a particular angle, or reflected in a curved mirror, the distortion disappears and the image in the picture appears normal.The purpose of this book is to consider the question, “What you see is what you get?” Seeing is some kind of “direct” perception of reality. But in fact, our brains are constantly interpreting and giving structure to the raw visual input from our eyes. In this book, there are anamorphic images that can only be seen in the reflection of a mirrored cylinder. What’s interesting about these anamorphic images are that most of them look weird without a mirror cylinder.
