I was ready to say, but they were not ready to listen
In my work, I explore the fluidity of existence and identity, questioning the boundaries of materiality and perception and examining the physical and emotional aspects of the human experience.
My perspective has been enriched by my experiences in both China and the United States, allowing me to dissect and challenge rigid gender binaries with an understanding of the nuances of identity. Through photography, video, installation, and performance, I create spaces where the subtleties of gender and identity can be contemplated, questioned, and understood. I engage in metaphorical activity by manipulating everyday objects in unexpected ways and exploring materials' symbolic and metaphorical potential. Each piece serves as a metaphor, a recontextualization that challenges rigid gender binaries, a performative act that symbolically breaks through societal expectations.
In my video works, I create narratives about overcoming challenges, using familiar objects in subversive ways to position them as metaphors standing between humor and pain and emphasizing the value of observing the world with empathy and curiosity.
