Investigating deeply into prejudice and bias leaded my attention to real-life global issues of discrimination which are still prevalent today even though there have been varied efforts made by people who attempted to fight for their rights. After researching on a range of different solutions that have been previously suggested to solve the problems, I realized that there are a few factors that are missing or in need of improvement: Firstly, method of storytelling is rather too obvious and unidirectional, Thus, there is lacking involvement of general public, who are not necessarily interested in the issues. Further, most of solutions deal only with specific types of discrimination at once, not in general.

Then, how can these serious issues be more tangible and accessible to general public in their daily lives? How can I convey more memorable and impactful messages? Is there a way to design a comprehensive campaign dealing with discrimination in general? Here is my answer: The Bitter Sip. The Bitter Sip serves coffee like any other coffee shop, but it also gives you a moment to think about these rather serious issues of racism, homophobia, sexism, ableism, ageism and fat discrimination while you’re simply having a cup of coffee as you do everyday. By creating an environment that mimics real-life situations of minority being discriminated, The Bitter Sip offers you hands-on and tangible understanding of these serious global issues hoping for just a little change of your mind.
