Phase Change
Focusing on the neighborhood of South End, Albany, Phase Change is a critical study of the evolution of the city grid, the organizational structure of the block, and the special conditions of the mansion, row house, and single room occupancy building. The project represents a rethinking of the underlying structure of the urban residential system that allows for spatial reconfiguration in response to changes in culture, climate, and infrastructure in the neighborhood. Integrating architecture, infrastructure, and social practice, Phase Change re-envisions the neighborhood as an evolving system rather than a set of disconnected parts.
