Isaiah Winters, Assistant Professor of Photography

Isaiah Winters is a New York-based interdisciplinary artist, educator, and researcher

His artistic practice, which encompasses photography, experimental filmmaking, and collage, merges archival materials with contemporary concepts. Winters's work comments on themes of nationalism and indexicality, challenging viewers to acknowledge their own biases and learned truths by recontextualizing visual media and advertisements. He emphasizes the crucial role of popular culture and imagery in shaping our everyday understanding of the world

Winters holds a BA in Sociology from Salisbury University and an MFA in Photography from Parsons School of Design. Prior to his artistic career, he served as an Air Force veteran with a background in linguistics and data analytics.
Winters also holds a professorship at The New School, where he teaches in both the First-Year program and the BFA Photography program. His course load includes a range of subjects covering his area of expertise, such as analog photography, filmmaking, and art history.

His work has been exhibited at venues including the Rotterdam Photo Festival, Parsons School of Design, Lincoln Center, Penumbra Foundation, Pingyao Photo Festival, and Photoville. Winters has also completed commissioned projects for organizations such as The New York Times, New Inc., Baltimore Magazine, Seaman Schepps, Expedia, US National Park Service, and Google.
