Given the current political climate, it is important for me to critically examine the images disseminated by the media and the conversations surrounding them. The discussions concerning beauty in the fashion industry and the way these images influence my perception of my own body led me to investigate advertisements in fashion magazines. Fragmen Feminam, meaning a piece of female, highlights practices specific to producing a feminine body, from skincare routines and manicures to makeup and jewelry. When the magazine is re-photographed with a macro lens, the materiality of the image reveals itself through the dot matrix, grounding it in its photographic nature. The fragmentation caused by the lens and the dot matrix simultaneously destroys and constructs the image. I am interested in the role image, technology and the camera play in the construction and performance of gender.  See more on issuu .
