Artificial Lifeforms
My project is a visual exploration of the liminal space between the digital and the natural, a border inhabited by artificial life forms. I employed computational models that simulate life processes to ask how a biological system might develop its form. Drawing on the concept of “mechanisms of emergence,” I used the simulations to explore the complex patterns, resembling biological functions, that arise out of simple rules and initial conditions. Artificial life forms invite people to consider the possibility that life may be defined not by the stuff that abides but by patterns that perpetuate themselves.
