SOAK

SOAK
SOAK, located in Danby, Vermont, is an educational retreat for educators, students, and families that promotes environmental awareness and sustainable living. The design features multiple interconnected modules, each with a simple pitched roof and a bathtub carved from local Danby marble, fostering a deep connection to the natural environment.

A key element of the project is the marble-carving workshop, where participants can make bathtubs for the housing units and carve their own cups for use in the on-site tea shop. These hands-on activities connect visitors to craft and local resources and enhances their experience at the retreat.

The site operates sustainably, using locally sourced wood, traditional joinery techniques, and outdoor washery points that employ a natural stream. A mugwort farm on the property provides natural ingredients for tea and bath products. The retreat also offers educational workshops, including bath bomb and soap making, allowing visitors to learn about natural ingredients and relaxation techniques.

SOAK offers a serene escape from urban life, promoting a deep commitment to preserving our planet while providing a peaceful space for education and relaxation.
