Advising
We tend to think of architectural objects as networks of connections, facilitating functions and unifying programs. However, we cannot deny the often neglected fact that no matter how elaborately our buildings are designed, once in their urban habitat, they inevitably cause some level of division and obscurity. By acknowledging that fact, and building from an existing urban infrastructure, this project attempts to render reconciliation and harmonize the flow of urban life at an intersection that is busy, yet devoid of a meaningful human-space interaction. This thesis project examines the tension between a public light rail station and nearby housing complexes. It addresses the interface of public and private spaces and pushes forward the idea of social interactions in a dense, multilevel city like New York.
