Especially for Jack
In 2020, I struggled with grief after my father’s death. In the process of grieving, I developed an interest in death, mourning, and the commemoration of those who have died, along with a feeling of resentment toward the funeral industry and the impersonal, greedy culture surrounding it. My goal for this project was to eliminate the taboo on conversation about death, dying, and preparation for death in American society and to transform the design of funeral and memorial items, which are often generic and uninspired. I chose to re-design the urn, creating a collection of 3D-printed vessels that allow for the celebration of the deceased person's life in a new and special way. Every individual is unique and deserves a design representing that uniqueness.
