Showa Land

Advising
Showa Land is a hand-drawn, frame-by-frame short animation inspired by a road trip I took last summer, where I traveled through the countryside, the mountains, and the coastlines of Japan. I found many precious sites, many of which were elements of the Shōwa period, the reign of the Shōwa Emperor Hirohito from 1926 through 1989, which were quietly preserved. The trip brought me extreme nostalgia of a time that I had not actually experienced firsthand. Showa Land is an amusement park where the retro modern fantasies from Japan's Showa period live on in the form of characters and rides. In this animation a little girl wanders into the magical realm of Showa Land and becomes a part of its story.
