For my piece I wanted to explore the contrast and interaction between the feelings of confinement and release. I began by creating a diptych representing these emotional states and then explored the relationship between them and the concept of transformation and change. The final triptych presents the process of change as a subtle but substantial shift, creating movement from one state to another but also incorporating elements of each and serving to reconcile the tension between opposing states. The piece was inspired by situations in which I felt trapped but which offered me opportunities to experience levity.
