The horizon line is a simple visual division. Two elements collide at the edge of our perception. In a physical sense, this line is where the sky meets land or sea. But this is illusory. The phenomenon occurs at a fixed distance, a greater distance than we could imagine traversing. It allows us to orient ourselves in physical space and creates a sense of distance and nearness.

I avoid vertical cities, seeking horizontal expanses and elusive phenomena — spaces that allow a full view of the horizon. I found the flat West Texas desert’s stars, the green rays of the Pacific Ocean, and the 600,000 gallons of water that poured over Niagara Falls every second. These places induce a feeling of being small that is difficult to translate into words or pictures. My idea is to create something visceral, moving, and experiential that reflects this phenomenon.
