    The Lifeguard Project: Act 1: Scene 2 is a sculpture/installation exploring notions of protection. Inspired by childhood interactions with lifeguards—who guard much more than lives as they oversee the interpersonal dynamics of a local pool—the piece was conceived as a lifeguard stand for McCarthy’s father’s study—a guardian to protect his favorite piece of art, a drawing of a horse.
