RECURRENCE
In this collection, I examine the Mexican and Mexican American experience in the United States. I began by asking myself, ""What can fashion symbolize to a group of people who have such a long history with the United States? What themes from the past still exist today? How can one reinterpret and reimagine the clothes that have historically been associated with the Mexican and Mexican American community and their experiences?"" I incorporated my reflections in woven plaid shirts, embroidery, and Talavera laser-cutting motifs. My process also consisted of looking at artworks and family pictures. The collection explores the part played by tradition, storytelling, vulnerability, and history in forming identity. I thank the following individuals for their contributions.
