When people see garments, they recognize them as a certain type of clothing by particular details and silhouettes. This collection is a study of the boundaries of that perception for a series of signature basics. I explore the question, at what point is a trench coat defined as a trench coat and a shirt defined as a shirt? The design process began with the tracing of certain elements from flat sketches of basics. Later, they were overlapped and combined to final designs. In starting the 3D process, the garments were approached as if they were sculpture. The goal was to recreate the sketches into garments that were as recognizable as possible. Fabrics and colors were then modified to meet this standard.
