FlatFlat

FlatFlat
FlatFlat is a collection of aluminum furniture designed to fit into flat-rate shipping boxes. Out of the box, each flat-packed item can be assembled without hardware, simply folding and fitting together. All pieces are laser-cut in the United States from aluminum sheet and fabricated in New York with aluminum hinges and rivets. Aluminum, an infinitely recyclable metal, is corrosion-resistant, lightweight, and resistant to bending. FlatFlat was born from my experience of frequent moves and observation of furniture waste on the sidewalks of New York. The design process involved a seamless sequence of disassembly, shipment, and reassembly, using flat-rate boxes, which can be acquired for free and shipped at a reduced cost. The materiality ensures the maximum longevity and eventual recyclability of the product. The first two products in the collection are the FoldSeat and FoldTable. Both items are designed to fit and ship in a 12.5” x 17.5” box.
