Ensemble

Advising
Today, on average we live 34 years longer than our great-grandparents. With longer life expectancy, it is crucial to ensure that people live meaningful lives even as they get older. Playing musical instruments is both cognitively and physically stimulating. But because the activity requires higher energy levels, it becomes increasingly challenging with age.

Working with seniors who have hearing loss, arthritis, dementia, and other impediments, the aim of Ensemble is to make playing un-pitched percussion instruments accessible to a wider audience. The instruments focus on two actions — banging and shaking — and explore multi-sensory experiences of playing music by engaging not only hearing but also touch and sight.

Ensemble encourages enjoyable social get-togethers, steady heartbeats, and high spirits through rhythm.
