    Sonya Sklaroff

    Profile

    Sonya Sklaroff lives and works in New York City. She has had many solo shows in New York and throughout Europe and her work is included in prestigious private, corporate, and museum collections worldwide.

    Her new work focuses on the relationship between representation, abstraction and fantasy. She is inspired by objects and scenes that she encounters in her daily life and her travels, and either paints on location or in her studio using a spontaneous and colorful layering technique. She is currently working on her upcoming one-woman exhibition.

    Sklaroff has enjoyed teaching at Parsons since 1999. She graduated with a BFA in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design and has an MFA in painting from Parsons. Sklaroff has received numerous honors for her work and her paintings have been reviewed by The New York Times, The Washington Post, Edition Internationale du Figaro, Elle Deco, American Arts Quarterly, TimeOutNY, and American Artist Magazine. She has been interviewed for television and numerous podcasts including Good Morning America and Spectrum News NY1 (including Annika Pergament's "Rush Hour"). Was also recognized on HBO's And Just Like That (Sex and the City) for her work as an artist.

    Her first book "Sonya Sklaroff", with a preface by the international best-selling author Harlan Coben, was published in 2014 by Livre D'Art. Her second book "Pandemic Paintings", published in 2021, has an introduction by the celebrated chef Rachael Ray. And her third book "A Love Letter to New York City" was launched at her solo exhibition at the historic Algonquin in NYC in 2022. Her catalog from her 2023 "Secrets of New York" solo show at the Algonquin, includes a preface by the best-selling author and Harvard theoretical phyisict Lisa Randall. In 2020 she was awarded a prestigious "Anonymous was a Woman" grant from the New York Foundation for the Arts.
