Matt Whitman is an artist and filmmaker working with 16mm and Super 8 film. Originally from southeastern Pennsylvania, he lives and works in Brooklyn.

Alongside his teaching at Parsons, he manages the First Year Film Series and Parsons Notes.

His films have screened at festivals across North America, including the Ann Arbor Film Festival, MIX NYC and the Winnipeg Underground Film Festival. Other screenings include Cosmic Rays, Light Matter, CROSSROADS, Light Field, the Mimesis Documentary Film Festival and the Brooklyn Film Festival. His work has also been presented at UnionDocs in New York City and No Name Cinema in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

In 2023, he was an artist in residence at the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s Arts Center at Governors Island. He has also completed a month-long residency at the Tides Institute and Museum in Eastport, Maine, where he explored lower-toxicity methods of developing film.
