Profile
Lauren Petty is a multi-platform artist who makes interdisciplinary performances, multi-channel installations, experimental films, documentaries and interactive video scores to accompany live performance. She regularly works with artist Shaun Irons under the name AutomaticRelease. Lauren and Shaun's hybrid work has been exhibited in diverse locations in New York and internationally including BAM’s Next Wave Festival, The Brooklyn Museum, Anthology Film Archives, REDCAT (Los Angeles), and the Museo Nacional (Havana, Cuba). They have received numerous awards including two NYFA Fellowships, multiple grants from the NEA, NYSCA, Jerome Foundation, Greenwall Foundation, Experimental Television Center, the Asian Cultural Council, Bel Geddes Design Fund and the Mertz Gilmore Foundation as well as creative residencies from MacDowell, Yaddo, LMCC, Harvestworks, Signal Culture, Bogliasco Foundation, the Camargo Foundation, and the Tokyo Wonder Site. Lauren was a 2020 recepient of an NYC Women's Fund for Media, Music and Theater for her upcoming project All Over Everywhere.

Lauren received an MFA in Design and Technology from Parsons School of Design, an MA in Media Art and Performance from New York University and a BA in Art History from Northwestern. She is an Associate Teaching Professor at The New School/Parsons, Adjunct Faculty at New York University in the Integrated Digital Media Program and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Brooklyn College in the Film, Radio and TV Department.
