A native New Yorker, Josephine Vargas graduated from the High School of Art & Design, Josephine Vargas continued her studies at FIT and the School of Visual Arts. She began her career working in the advertising production area, then in the art department of Allied Stores Corporation where she acquired an insight to the fashion market or the rag trade as it was commonly referred to during those years. Exposure to this area has given her a love of graphics and typography. Her career as a fashion illustrator blossomed when she began working in the pattern industry. She has worked at and free-lanced for the Simplicity Pattern Co., McCall’s Pattern Co. as well Butterick and Vogue Pattern Companies as an illustrator for designers and a pattern book artist.Among her many freelance clients are BBD&O, Texfi Industries, JC Penny, Boussac of France, Stevens Fabrics, and Sport Obermeyer in Aspen, Colorado.She developed an interest in watercolor painting and studied with Elise Morenon and the late Edgar A. Whitney. In recent years she has attended workshops at the Woodstock School of Art conducted by Richard Segalman. Her other love is the digital media and teaches Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator applications.Josephine Vargas is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society and the National Art League in Douglaston, NY. She is the recipient of numerous awards and honors and is represented in private and public collections here and abroad.
