    Profile

    Specialist in material culture, visual culture, and design studies. David co-edited (with Hazel Clark) Design Studies: A Reader (Berg, 2009) and his books Housekeeping by Design: Hotels and Labor (2016) & Visualizing American Empire: Orientalism and Imperialism in the Philippines (2010) were both published by the University of Chicago Press. Other publications include articles and reviews in Prospects: An Annual of American Cultural Studies, Journal of Asian American Studies, American Quarterly, Journal of Design History, American Periodicals, Design and Culture, Design Issues, Luxury: History, Culture, Consumption & and other journals.
