    Profile:

    Specialist in material culture, visual culture, and design studies. David co-edited (with Hazel Clark) Design Studies: A Reader (Berg, 2009) and his books Housekeeping by Design: Hotels and Labor (2016) & Visualizing American Empire: Orientalism and Imperialism in the Philippines (2010) were both published by the University of Chicago Press. Other publications include articles and reviews in Prospects: An Annual of American Cultural Studies, Journal of Asian American Studies, American Quarterly, Journal of Design History, American Periodicals, Design and Culture, Design Issues, and other journals. David has also given papers at numerous academic conferences.
